The Passenger [Excerpt]
[Note: this is only an excerpt of part of a story I have written called The Passenger
Both the mood and the weather were grey as I cast my eyes up toward the melancholy sky. The body language between Jake and I was chilling, if existent at all. The atmosphere inside the car felt quiet, despite having the radio turned up. It was playing a song that we once would have sung along to together. As I watched Jake stare blankly at the road ahead of us I could see his mind ticking like a clock. I could only imagine the world inside his head, all the things that were going on in there. Why was he so silent towards me now? I couldn’t think of wh
Longing.
A single word possesses
All of humanity.
In the day, I long for
The night.
In the sunshine I long for
The rain.
Alone, I long for
Love
Yet in love I long for
Solitude.
I am not discontented
Yet I am
Disillusioned
For why do I long for
What I do not have?
I do not want you,
For fear of no longer
Longing for you.
Why should I slash at my wrists
Whilst in love I can’t resist
Self harm is magnificent
As love’s blade is sufficient
I have no need to take pills
Love’s searing white pain, it thrills
Love, it strikes without remorse
The pain it bleeds, runs its course
I do not want suicide
But love chokes me from inside
On my life its firm hands grip
Love’s toxic potion I sip
Why throw myself off a ledge
Love consumes, I’m on the edge
But here I stand, then I leap
In death’s arms, now I will sleep
